CYBERBULLIES

CYBERBULLIES

"Cyberstalkers are often driven by revenge, hate, anger, jealousy, obsession and mental illness. While a cyberharasser may be motivated by some of these same feelings, often the harassment is driven by the desire to frighten or embarrass the harassment victim.

"Sometimes the harasser intends to teach the victim a lesson in netiquette or political correctness (from the harasser's point of view). Often the cyberharassment victim is merely in the wrong place at the wrong time, or has made a comment or expressed an opinion that the cyberharasser dislikes.

We have even seen cases where the victim is merely being targeted because they are the first ones the cyberharasser encounters when they are in a "bad mood."

Fighter, what do you do about these types? I know we can preserve the evidence, keep the emails, but what then? Who do we report the crime to?

With the my ex-bigamist and his cyberpath, online-predators ways, I simply kept all the emails for the police as well as his online personal ads, and was even told by a Federal Marshall to engage in Perverted Justice type action with him by placing ads on line and communicating with him.

But what can we do about these adult cyberstalkers--harassing individuals who have targeted someone? I know you have experience with the Computer Crimes Division of your city? Do they really listen? And I know from experience, if you throw enought "s#!T" at the wall, some of it is bound to stick!

You can also report Internet harassment to your local Department of Justice/FBI office. For a list and email addresses, go toL
http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm

If the cyberbully is not a US citizen, you can still report them to the FBI as well as to the local police in their area.
